The relationship of the 11th cranial nerve to disturbance of the 8th, noted as a basic fear response in the newborn, is made clear in photos of the startle pattern (see page I.48). Feldenkreis' notes on balance and human upright posture were appreciated by Dart in his 1961 lecture. He did not know that Feldenkreis, when he produced “Body and Mature Behavior” (1949), was familiar with Dart's own writings from the 1940s. Feldenkreis had also been having Alexander lessons at that time with Walter Carrington.
